i forgot which plugin does it but it lets you sidechain just a certain frequency range instead of ducking the whole thing. ik you can do it with ableton's multiband compressor
but ppl shouldnt rlly be side chaining 808s to begin with. thats just weird
Sidechaining an 808 makes sense to preserve headroom but it's not prevalent in hip hop. Depends upon the 808 and kick, context, etc. Entirely subjective
You can multiband sidechain with Trash 2 and TDR Nova.
unfinished but made this real quick clyp.it/edxjwnln

I fw this. That one perc u have (not the cowbell) pan it to the left with the reverb. Will give the snare and kick a little room in the middle
wow this hard asl
the synths that come in when the rest of the drums come in
thanks bro

Demo I made
Any feedback on what to add and the way I structured it
Or is it ready for vocals and just needs a mix and master
This is hard f*** bro, sounds like u spent extra time on it, the structure is perfect. I really like the saturation and soft clipping!
Everything sounds great here king

I spent some time on it yeah thank you!
What do you think about the vocals? I thought maybe they should be more in the background
https://clyp.it/dy1ahaqt super proud of this one. The synths
This beat sounds nice and fun like s*** Lil Yachty would jump on back in the day
anyone else not sidechain their 808s? never have and don’t really think it’s necessary
I do it with fruity limiter and all it did is make it sound better when the kicks and 808 hit together what's wrong with it?

I think they're fine, the theremin type synth is a little goofy for me tho

The melody and pad sound real cute like a video game music
I think it needs to sound fuller and take more place in the mix, I mostly hear the kick and 808 whichsound clean, it's just that I'd want more of the synths

I really forgot the beat is all synthy and melodic
Future really make all these songs his own

Synths on that song provided by Frank Dukes

Every time I see the name Frank Dukes it's GOAT s***
I wouldn't have been surprised to see him on After Hours (but he wasn't)

He helped produce Alone Again, but that was it

Anyone use sample library previews for references?
listen...to..oth..how they sound
I really try and use as much as I can in my arsenal, you can create interesting sound palettes if the drums compliment each other in a dark/light sort of dichotomy
Like u can have a really ugly snare with a smooth kick, kind of a taste thing really
You indeed need to listen to other songs lol

KAYTRANADA always have sick drums patterns
Oh ur strictly loops, idk just find a loop put a high pass filter effect on it. Add some lo fi tape saturation, and yeah
Downloads every drum kit you can find
How to place the drums? Listne to the song and try to copy that into the program
Look into YouTube videos about your DAW to figure out automations and drum mixing
I only knew FL Studio had cool options like velocity, reversing and stuff from watching videos
clyp.it/wegmdrjj I kinda did something like that here. What I did was output the loop to a WAVES J37 plugin, and put the tape speed at 7.5 ips. I put it on send/return and just drove the f*** out of the output
Turned the lowpass to about 4199.5hz and this was the result
