Just came across the most interesting trick for working with drum breaks
gonna see how I can transfer this some 87bpm after finals
Essentially: get a drum break, rearrange it with the hits you want. Save that.
Then duplicate it and distort/compress the f*** out of it followed by a transient shaper into a limiter. Bounce that.
Take the new distorted layer, send it to a bus where there is a F0 sine wave playing from another channel. Distort them hard together, then cut below like 1k hz. Now u have a sick "ride" layer
Then u can rearrange the white noise/distorted layer in the break to layer with the original hits, making it feel distorted as hell, but it's actually not

Its sounds good, I feel like the kick and bass are conflicting for the low end a little too much.
I would make it so the kick is making up the brunt of beat, and the bass is just supplying it.
Anything in 20-100 should have a low pass filter on the bass, there is just one little gap where the bass and kick should exist separately
Hip hop kind of makes you think the kick and bass should be together, but it should be like a rocky relationship.

For me I wanted the kick to just be a pulse. If i took away the kick you would notice and it would feel different, despite the bass being much more prominent.
For my bass I have sub and stereo bass combined into one. For like Justice type bass what you're saying would work.

Umm thats not exactly what I said about Justice Bass. Its just increasing the treble and mids, and leaving a little bass frequency there.
If you need to the bass frequency due to it conflicting with another one do that.
Try and use a non graphic EQ. You will trust your ears more

Yeah what I do too is I cut out where the kick peaks in the bass and vice verse for the kick. I think if I had the bass mixed at a lower level instead of like -12 db the kick would be more noticeable

I usually keep my s*** at -6db. The reason why is cause the samples are a lot quieter in the sampler.

Do you use kontakt? I use the saturation plugin which makes the samples way louder and spread out
