Do ya'll always add bass to your beats if you sample ? Sometimes the sample already has an underlying bass that suits the beat well, and adding my own bass on top of that seems like overkill.

ENRGY Beats does soul type samples with 808s really well.

I would figure out the keys for the low-end of the sample, try re-creating it w/ your 808s, and then cutting the low-end of the sample with some EQ.

Bro I am blown away by how the sample is done on Christian Dior Denim Flow to create the melody for the hook

Maybe I’m just a noob starting out studying samples but the way that if you sing the hook along with it when the beat drops, different elements of the hooks melody are just from the instruments, but not in a linear way. The bells for the “but I don’t know why” the violins for “calling youuuu” Ye truly practices what he preaches in interviews about music because this is exactly what he said about sweeping melodies in Heartless

The beat would drop at 0:12 as in if you were singing Christian Dior denim flow “I got the world in my hands” the word “world” would hit right at 0:12, I’m not on my pc to adjust the key but if you sing Along out loud or in your head just as cudi does it but in the key of this beat it should click, specifically singing it the way it is before the big beat switch in the middle of CDDF when Cudi slows down the “youuuuuu”

It’s even structured the same way before the vocals start how there’s a little gap in the drums the same way there is during the break after the hook in CDDF(tired of typing that) that plays with the “I told her I’m tryna eat out, so what we goin to dinner for”
The kick pattern is the most obvious part

Again with the auto tune hook of the Believe What I Say snippet

Pretty sure this is simple s*** and I’m just figuring it out
For this one that melody is the bass combined with those low pianos for the first “verse” segment of Doo Wop

Makes me want to go back to through the wire and s*** like that see if the cadence is based on elements of the og song which is obvious but the way it’s sporadically different elements of these instrumentals with so many layers almost at random but clearly not due to how well they work. “What is that process like for a MBDTF level album?” Is the question I end up with, who’s picking “okay this word will follow the saxophone of the og song then the following three words will hit with the kick of it” it’s so hard to wrap my mind around but I’m putting it into practice real soon

Does anyone else on here use Cubase? I can’t be the only one, I just have never heard a single person mention it here.

So my best friend and his brother make electronic/dance/house music

And I think it's really really good - it's him and his brother who do it and they don't get enough credit

The two of them work super hard and I'm not into house music like that at all but everything they've made so far is such a vibe, it'd mean the world if you guys had a listen:

    soundcloud.com/dolcirain
    music.apple.com/gb/artist/dolci-rain/1509386626

They're also on AM & Spotify, they don't use any online forums so i posted here because I really want them to get the exposure they deserve. I don't even mess with house music like that but everything they've dropped is such a vibe

    Any feedback is appreciated!!!

Most people use fl studio, ableton or logic pro for hip hop. Is cubase your first daw or which did you migrate from? How’s cubase? How long you been on it?

I officially believed there's something there when I realized how the "i told her i'm tryna eat out" line goes with the break in the sampled song
gonna test this out with more dark fantasy/cruel summer

The cadence of the piano not the melody but the cadence almost completely follows the runaway hook
at 1:40 the first piano riff is off a little but if you sing from "lets have a toast for the douchebags" it follows it up to the break just like CDDF with that piano slowing down and hitting one not which i'm sure isn't a coincidence with "runaway as fast as you can"
