It wasn’t just walking into jabs though. That collar tie cut off his head movement. If ilia’s good at anything it’s usually head movement. Gaethje has really good timing on that jab too but if he misses a lot of his best work comes off it, especially with him using that lead high kick so often that first round. He didn’t just land random jabs, he funneled ilia into them

and the planning/execution of the event itself was flawless
