I feel that, but how do you think West’s artiness is more contrived? Even though they’re artistically and maybe aesthetically different, I think there’s a lot of overlap between them. Like both are way ahead in terms of like artistic sense, but I feel like Mach’s s*** is also like somewhat avante-guarde (like WPK for example). Idk, imo both are on some genius s***

Personally, I fw both. But idk man, to me Griselda’s appeal isn’t just that they rap about d****, because that’s been done to death; it’s that they rap really f***ing well, they’re creative about it, their story is insane, and WSG’s artistic direction makes them really appealing.

Mach to me is amazing. But so often I have no goddamn idea what he’s talking about. Do you always know what he’s referencing? A lot of it I catch but so much of it is so heavily coded (or spoken in Creole).

It often feels like West is painstakingly cultivating an artsy gangster image whereas Mach is just being himself. Which is not to say West shouldn’t be doing that, it’s just what separates them in my mind. I don’t dislike Griselda, and West is definitely my favorite artist over there.
I do catch a lot of Mach’s references/lines and am able to trust that even the stuff I happen to not understand yet isn’t just nonsense. I don’t speak Creole or French, though, so all of that stuff is obviously still a big ol’ question mark to me.

Like, I don’t think West doesn’t enjoy all of the arty stuff he purports to enjoy, but he also seems to really need for us all to know he likes it and I don’t get that vibe from Mach.

man I swear, 17 is mach's 04, then one album with the legendary producer that kinda turned heads (tuez-les nd madvillainy) and INSANE underground buzz with a few mainstream but very strong shoutouts (earl, mos def, pics w dre n hov). im ready to bet money 3-4 yrs down the line all the new-age oldheads will start discovering mach in heaps by the time hes probably gonna chill somewhere
