My brother the fact you ask shows you’re not in the culture and don’t understand it. The way we raised I had no choice but to listen to other genres. None of ya’ll in hear hip to that, it’s the kryptonite to white hip-hoppers who desperate to be down. I start throwing some soul or swing and ya’ll be lost as hell. This is in my soul b, I don’t study this s***, I am this s***. It makes sense why soulless white kids gravitate to Mach but find time to hate on hip-hop with soul. Ya’ll some beats and bars break it down type dudes. Lame as hell.

dope, huge fan of all those people, esp lonnie liston and bobbi humphrey. the way i see it, we're you in that story. like you said, all your people couldn't get with cash money because they didn't have the context of listening to southern rap. i could see how if you didn't follow certain threads in rap it would be hard to get with mach's stuff. i think rhymewise his foundation is more mos def, kool g and prodigy, but i found him through listening to mf doom, griselda, earl sweatshirt, and knxwledge for years, and thats more his production sound/era/the people he gets compared to and grouped with. if you weren't listening to the style people like mach, nack, and divino have now while it was being developed, i get not getting it.

Word b, lonnie is incredible, saw the man perform a few years ago and it was a real experience. I feel what you saying but I'm a big fan of what them griselda brothers are doing and doom goes without saying even if he pulled a couple of lame moves later in his career.

Back in like 2003 or something I went to see Sadat x and the dudes from Can ox performed too as well as a grip of other artists. My boy knew one of the artists performing. Plenty of dudes were there, karniege even wack ass aesop Rock but it's also where I was put onto Billy woods. Can't say I mess with all his music but I know where it comes from.

My gripe is all this bandcamp shortcut demanding hundreds of dollars bs. I listened to a couple of the tapes from that dude YL and he's cool with it but most of them are just so basic, my ears can't get with it. Same for all that slums garbage. It's masked as "art" to hide the fact its garbage. Not saying I listen to them like that but give me some Uzi Vert or Thug anyday of that lame garbage.

Elaborate in that last bit bro. What don’t you like about those artists, and is that connected to what you don’t like about mach? Cuz it sounds like you’re just not enjoying the music am i wrong?

I know that some people feel that kind of lofi, unmastered sound but to me it's lazy as f*** and they just call it art to disguise the laziness and wackness. Don't get it twisted Mach is a cut above a lot of them, hell he's quite a lot better than most of those artists. The Al divino, anklejohn, crimeapple, mavi type dudes are the worst but Mach isn't much better to me. These dudes all just stay behind the internet. I understand not every artist will be out there touring, out there selling music hand to hand etc etc. I get that. But these dudes are just an example of how everyone thinks now they can be a rapper. Same way every instagram girl thinks she a model, every instagram food poster thinks they a photographer etc. This wave of bandcamp rappers are a dime a dozen and only able to differentiate their sound through marketing. If Mach didn't stumble on a winning marketing formula then nobody would know him.

Cool b, respect the musicality. I'm a pretty open-minded dude when it comes to hip-hop. I was raised on summer cookout Pendergrass, isley, al green, stacy lattisaw, denice williams and also lonnie liston smith, Donald Byrd, bobbi Humphrey type s***. DITC, LOX, Biggie and them was my heart but some of my peoples lived in Memphis and my cousin and Auntie were in Houston. So in the summer my Moms would take me down to Houston and my cousin would hook me up with the tapes, Lil Keke, south circle all that local s***. Then I'd go and chill with my memphis folks and I'd have a grip of Playa fly or skinny pimp tapes to bring back. So when No Limit and Cash Money took over the game in 98 I f***ed with it, even though my peoples were stuck on that East coast vibe. I always been open-minded. I just find Mach so wack. I can't get with it.

I feel you on slums, and certain characters in this scene who are just riding the wave and not making creative music. tho to my ear, all of the people you just mentioned by name are too distinct from one another to even lump in like that. if you'd really listened to mavi and crimeapple, it wouldn't make sense to call them 'type dudes' next to each other. crime is a Colombian coke rapper from jersey with clean, old school production. mavi is a younger, more introspective kid from Charlotte who raps about liberation and depression/self development over more laid back and experimental beats. also, everyone you just mentioned does do shows, does sell music hand to hand, has put in an incredible amount of footwork to build the scenes and audiences that they have. Its crazy to me that people forget how these cycles move. I'm sure you had this exact conversation when you were 18, 19, 20 with older heads who didn't get what you were listening to and said it was lazy garbage. now u lived long enough to see yourself become that, and forgot what it felt like to be on the other side. it all comes down to opinion, but it really seems like you haven't actually listened critically to any of these artists and you're dismissing them out of hand because they're new.

I dig all those old cats, you’re namedropping, and I’m also an old head (Probably older than you). Those old cats Wasn’t part of the musical tapestry of my childhood (I discovered them as as a teenager digging into samples and really started enjoying them when I got older). I never thought of music as being something reserved for a special race (Except maybe enjoying nazi-punk), though I of course always respected that the music I enjoy often comes from different cultures, than mine.

In many perspectives I understand why you front on Mach pricing his products so high and I agree that in some way it seems like he’s targeting an economically elitist segment.
On the other hand I also understand if Mach is thinking “Fuck those Daupe-flippers! That’s my money and if anyone is willing to pay that kind of money for my art/product, then please be my guest”... And then we had this amazing and really fun (but very stressfull (Shit was like a 72-hours Daupe-drop on steroids!!)) weekend, where Mach sold his products at extremely reduced prices. If you wanted to buy anything, you had to work very hard, but it was almost an socialist/capitalist marketing strategy (With the items being labelede as sold out and then 30 seconds later available again) making sure the flippers didn’t take over the game (Except of course the “Flipper pack” at the last drop, which I personally thought was a kind of prank).

So back to you @Bleezie: What do you dislike the most about Mach? Is it his “art” or his marketing strategy? If it’s Mach as an artist I really don’t get that you don’t get Mach, with that musical formation that you obviously have and that I, in large, share with you.
