Idk if this was said already but the new Clout Dracula beat doesn’t do Navy Blue’s verse justice

Idk navy seems out of place on that one

    https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/mach-hommy-machs-hard-lemonade/

P4k gives Lemonade an 8.0, his highest score yet I think (edit: just checked, yup, Fete was previously highest with 7.9)

    OH NAH FETE >>>>> MHL

P4K doing Mach yet another solid by reviewing his album highly when it’s a TIDAL exclusive. Kind of makes me wonder again if some writers get paid off.

P4K: “he was photographed last fall at a meeting with JAY-Z, who took obvious inspiration from Hommy’s cadences for his verses on Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony.”

Why do you find it to be so much worse than the other projects?

You silly for that one but to each their own!
When I first got my hands on it I was convinced it was the best rap album id ever heard but as I listened more it became evident that was definitely not the case but I still hold it very highly from a creativity standpoint and not many other rap projects I’ve heard stack up to it as a pice of art

Aw, I love the production on it. That’s what puts it over FYI and Dumpmeister for me, which are tied for third; FYI is great but it doesn’t have “383 Myrtle” or “Canary Rhombus” on it.

at least according to aoty.com their Fete review is the first Mach critic review outside of the blogosphere. They've given Mach quite a bit of spotlight ever since that project, it's not to be scoffed at.

Not quite as much but similarly to slums P4k took Mach way more seriously than most fairly early on and have been consistent with it. Can't think of another publication which gave him this much platform.

I feel like folks hate on P4k out of principle too much and close their eyes to all the work they do, especially compared to any of those other major publications, or Fantano who's just snoozing for years then crawls out only to give a complete cringe take (then prolly changes his mind down the line just as with Earl, Tyler, Cudi..)

P4K are WOAT bro, they just talk about the artist rather than the album and give a review between 7.2-7.4 in the majority of instances, unless an artist is popping then they’ll give them a better review than they deserve or unless it’s an artist they used to like and they’ve gone off the boil in which case it’s lower and they’ll nitpick lyrics. All their past credibility is long gone imo

  • I feel you on beats being a hurdle, though. My favorite song by a rapper will usually be whatever my favorite beat they ever used was; I don’t think it’s ever dictated by the lyrics, as much of a “how come none of y’all rap, but y’all rap” hip-hop fan as I am.

They turned into Rolling Stone for Millennials.

    I certainly agree with it

It’s a big ass claim to throw out there if you’re Pitchfork

Hard to verify but given events since, it is probably true

I just had a course on literary reviewing the past semester and my lecturer explicitly said that the joke about reviewing is that you don't have to cite. It's not academic, reviewing is making claims and giving opinions. You can of course make more and less accurate claims but that one isn't even very controversial.

Pretty sure he cares more about talking in front of a camera and having people pay attention to him than music.

nah i don't mean cite it to support the claim, i mean this thread called out mach influence the day the jay elec album came out, we know that droog probably has eyes on the thread so it wouldn't be shocking to me if bloggers checked up from time to time. i was more saying that we're the internet's premiere destination for mach-related discussion and mythologizing and we need our credit lmao
