Good video here talking more about the scam.

Didn't like the "nobody is rapping for real anymore" comment but happens to be a big Joe Budden fan but whatever.

Wish his music was half as substantive as that interview tbh.

The placement scam? Kenny Beats talked about it on Twitch. DJ Booth ran an article on it. The original dust up was on Reddit.

I don't think he grapples with those bag ideas in interesting way. Just for comparison's sake, Elucid and Woods really tease out the dread and anxiety and paranoia of modernity. They kind of circle the drain. They're always on the periphery of the actual point they're making. I don't think Mach is that refined yet as a writer.

Agreed but who’s to say that’s his goal in music? He touches on larger societal issues very vaguely in his bars, obviously not to the extent that Billy or Ka or the like will really drill it into the listeners’ mind, only because I think he’s gotten less concerned with pushing a narrative as he’s matured in the industry. Goon Grizzle and FYI touch on some very real political subjects as well as patterns of the human condition, but as he’s aged it seems he’s more inclined to create what sounds dope and different and what’s gonna get him that bag.

If you create art, you are pushing a narrative. My comment was in reply to somebody appreciating his interview. I agree his music doesn't tow that line. You're free to speculate why. If it's as cynical as wanting money then there's a deep irony there.

I agree with Yolk here—FYI is a pretty significant societal/political commentary. And I think he goes about that record in some very interesting ways. But you’re kind of assuming his goal with music is to be political/conscious/etc. I do think woods and Elucid are the masters of mixing in political consciousness in their work, but it seems for Mach that if it comes up, it comes up, meaning he does have some conscious-type lines every once and a while.

I don't make any assumptions about his work. My original comment was that it's not there. You guys seem to agree but perceive that as a slight against him.

I don't listen to much Mach. I did like FYI and HBO.

Anyone happen to download the interview that came out a week or two ago where Mach brought his vintage Lo in the IKEA bag? Watched it but didn’t get a copy and it was DMCA’d. Thanks y’all.
