    I'm 2pac all eyes on me! 🥰

unironically such a good example how quick and extreme cultural mutation has been since the advent of the internet

fat white guy saying "I'm 2pac" over a sing-songy ass beat to create something that hardly even resembles hip-hop, but undeniably stems off of a branch of a branch of a branch of hip-hop, and as a result still carries many of the aesthetics and tropes of the genre.

even more interesting when you learn that Joeyy is a lifelong hardcore hip-hop head who dropped out of middle school to make beats all day, and has been making music ever since for like 15 years straight now. Without that context, it would be easy to initially write him off as a tasteless gimmick artist cannibalizing the original genre if you had no prior exposure to the lineage of genres that originated in rap.

whether or not his music is a disrespectful mockery is a totally separate convo, but he insists it's not and kinda has the receipts to support it.

I do think it's a disservice to group all of this stuff under the umbrella of "rap" or "hip-hop" though. Like I said before, some of this stuff is so far removed from its roots at this point that it may serve to muddy the significance of the original.

i think the point of whether something is an influence, a distant influence or a rip off is jsut such a subjective line.

and with hip hop so many musicians borrow even just bits and pieces from it. you know.

just a tangent thought, not really about joeyy specifically

No it's well established that echi can't read. That was an open-response question for the class.
