Unfortunately, I think the dying breath of mainstream hip-hop's old guard is gonna be going all in on the AI s***

And as much as I enjoy a lot of the up and coming underground (hate a lot of it too), it's so far removed from the core of hip-hop that it feels wrong to have that be the ONLY surviving lineage with any cultural cache

But for better or for worse, gen z is (rightfully) very cynical about everything and that's reflected in our media preferences, especially with how "irony" manifests in that

I think a lot of older people (not like OLD old but millennial and up) see the way that takes shape in the underground and assume it's equivalent to parody or disrespect, whereas the people that grew up in that exact internet environment "get" the balance it's striking or attempting to strike

All of that to be said, I do think wholesale rejection of sincerity in art is incredibly unhealthy, both culturally and psychologically, but I also think that the zaniness of these scenes may be the only thing that holds out again the AI-ification of "pop hip-hop"
