I loved Hey, wait…; at first I was reading it and was like wtf is this, a less clever Calvin & Hobbes? But the death scene and what followed was mind blowing. Jason does an amazing job of portraying the transitionless loss of childhood.
Like one day you’re a kid and then you’re not and there’s no real grasp of that happening. In this comic, the character becomes an adult directly after his friend dies. And then the rest of his life is bleak and colored by that moment, and the “boring” childhood stuff in the first half before the death becomes almost utopian in comparison. I genuinely often feel like that myself looking back at that time. 100/10 comic.
I didn’t like I Killed Hitler as much but it was still a fun read. I feel like if it had better initial character development, it would have hit harder. But basically, it seemed to boil down to how the relationship between the hit man and his gf was more meaningful to them than even killing Hitler. And kinda saying that people think they will do great things with a Time Machine (like kill Hitler) but still end up cherishing their own relationships more. But like he broke up with that chick in the beginning, and then all this other stuff randomly happened. Didn’t really seem to have been set up to be the type of couple that would chase each other through the years, idk.

I think in I Killed Adolf Hitler the fact that the relationship didn't seem as important to him at the beginning is part of the idea. He was fully distracted by his work. It was only after his work became much more impactful and he went and lived a full life without her that he realized it was more important.
