ok so, im pretty neutral on this. i dont care if something is hand drawn or digital, both can look amazing or horrid. its just a tool people use.

but people switched to digital because it was cheaper and faster, not because they wanted a different look.
so it does often look worse.

and instead of them coexisting, digital outright replacing hand drawn is a huge tragedy that will be self corrected in the future (espcialy as ai generation works its way into movies more)

so i would imagine spongebob shift had to do with rushing the staff more and saving money which impacted the quality of the art, more so than the switch from hand drawn to digital.

keep in mind digital art is also hand drawn, its just a different look.
