radio here refuses to play hip hop. there was. a station called 99.1 hits fm where they would play what was in the top 20 or whatever. then when hip hop started dominating the chart in the mid 2010s they switched their name to 99.1 hot music, so they wouldnt have to play it. now they just play imagine dragons adjacent music thats not even on the billboard anymore lol

they never play black artists on the radio here. other than like drakes’ a hits from views and before

Rural canada, at least newfoundland, is very racist. and even the main city here is too. Ive had friends who I met after they move here, leave and go back to other provinces because of the racism.

when i was out in the small town my nan lives in (its like 300 ppl) i was walking to a trail with my dad, this guy was working in his garage and yelled out to us to chat because he didn’t recognize us. which is a big event for some ppl there.

and he asked where we live and me my dad were tlaking about montreal and abu dabi. and the guy was like “oh yeah my daughter lived in the korea to teach english for a few years. and they served her dog! she said they whip the dogs because it makes them more tender”

it was like within 2 minutes of a conversation, with total strangers.
