I've never been to Miami

Tbh I'm complaining and I'm not even talking about the beaches that are the worst for stuff like that

There are days where I go and it's like the ideal beach

But when it's like a day people would have in mind for an ideal beach day it's not a good experience

When I was in elementary school I was part of this group that did volunteer stuff

And one of the big things was beach cleaning during nesting season for sea turtles

So I think maybe the idea of beaches was ruined for me at a young age? People are disgusting and just throw our trash wherever and destroy nature

Mhm it was weird for me

Because like people were incredibly self congratulatory for doing a good thing but for me it was very depressing

Just got back from my 2 hour journey to see hit film “The Odyssey” in true IMAX glory.

Glorious experience. Tom Holland performance was a bit bland compared to his peers but not a major detractor from the move.

Had an auragasm when they opened the gates of Troy and Agamemnon was just standing there while the soldiers ran past him

Is it a good movie or did it just look cool

yeah it would just bum me out too even as an adult

I think in our mind we are very set in place maybe

So for a lot of us we look at what is going on as far as something like that goes and we go "we are doing something good, that's good!" And for the most part people feel the reward from that and then that's it

But like if you look at the fact that we have to do that, and the portion of people that have even been to that beach that decided to take the time to do that, it's way more depressing

I stopped doing stuff like that because it makes you realize that for the most part we are a scourge upon the earth, and even if a small amount of people try to make a difference the results are decided

I’m not a cinephile by any means so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I thought it was really great. I was shocked by how consistently engaging it was over the entire 3 hour runtime.

The giant screen and full aspect ratio did make it look very cool though

I watched a bad movie earlier

It had the tone of being a much better movie but it was very underwhelming. I can't stand the movies that are like "this stuff is happening, and it's happening in a relentlessly dark way!" And it was very much so that. Like the directors that make a movie and make it as harsh as possible to try to make it have some artistic credibility

Idk the movie you watched at all so it could be good but you made me want to rant about the movie I watched

Like if you're a director and the best you can think of to express is like dull darkness and harshness and cruelty, you probably just shouldn't pursue making films

In my mind at least

The creativity in your mind has no value

But the same director also directed the Exorcist so I think he did have value at one point

He should have just stopped after a while maybe

We didn't need this whole movie to show off how moody Matthew McConaughey could be

Never seen killer joe

Odyssey has a few dark / visually shocking moments, but they’re not gratuitous at all.

Going in to the movie, I was afraid it was gonna be overly pretentious, but there wasn’t even a hint of that. The dialogue was actually super straightforward and simple, without making the story feel dumbed down at all.

It also handled constantly moving between scenes set in the current day and scenes set in the past really well. I thought the time jumps in Oppenheimer were a little jarring at times, but The Odyssey feels like a continuous narrative front to back, even though it’s constantly jumping back and forth.

Christopher Nolan made Batman though and I liked those movies

But I haven't seen his other movies

Idk how much of the credit just goes to the fact that it was Batman that made me liked those

Dark scenes/moody scenes or even moody films in general are fine

But if that's like the entire point of your movie it's like...yuck
