feels like it will be something i will obsess over, and after 2 weeks I dont care

I feel like this is what happens the majority of the time someone says they’re gonna learn an instrument. I’ve done this. I can’t say I’ve picked up my guitar this year.

synthesthsialy Im trying to pin what looks like prince sounds like. hmmmm

a lot of claude monet paintings remind me of how he sounds

The drums alone in those Revolution-era Prince songs are so colorful. His drum programming is not spoken about enough.

    ohh yeah yeah

Kanye did minimalism better than anyone else. I was watching a video the other day on one of the engineers for 808’s being like “wtf do I even do with this?”. He said they felt like incomplete demos at first.

    100%

even his maximalist albums like mbdtf are deceptive because he still stripped down every unnecessary sound, while retaining this HUGE feeling from it. its like an optical illusion

apparently prince’s working progress, which was unique at the time, was that every single isolated instrument sounds good enough to be a song on its own. he didnt just make sounds to add texture that are meant to be listened to in context.

its like multiple original songs that mesh together to create a new song. So if you focus in on any component, youll always find something new and interesting.

Yeah like in-terms of layers those songs are still pretty sparse at times. Always been one of my fav qualities of his music

something like videogames and social media does i dislike is that there is no learning curve and its free dopamine. when in the past to had to put in effort to earn that dopamine and you get a new skill.

I think it’s a tragedy that its replaced it. because its hollow. its like d****, its not a real feeling. or candy. like fun sometimes but its not meant to replace anything.

and so many people have replaced their potential with it

This makes sense when you listen to songs and the verse sections are basically JUST drums

well luckily for you, you dont really have to spend all too much on your first piano. Get a cheap one, it’ll most likely have the keys in the right spots!

same. that process and talk talk’s mark hollis were really influential on me artistically for that reason. also davinci.

mark hollis quote better 1 note than 2 and better no notes than 1. i switch it to lines instead of notes and think about it everytime i draw

You can argue with video games but I agree with you.
