When I was in the 4th grade my mom promised me and my brother that if we got all A+s for the entire year that we would each get to pick a gift for the summer

My brother wanted a guinea pig, I wanted to go to a theme park

I got the A+s for the entire year to earn the gift, and my brother did not.

Summer came and she felt bad for my brother, because he genuinely tried, and she got him the guinea pig anyway. I never ended up going to the theme park. I didn't complain because I wasn't that type of kid really, but I definitely didn't forget about it.

It's a crazy thing to hold onto like that, and I don't think I like consciously was doing it, but I never really tried at school again after that. It's crazy how small things like that will affect the mindset of a kid. I think it taught me that if even the person I am closest to will not hold their end of the bargain and reward me for my efforts then why would anyone else?
