ya one of my fvaourite quotes is theres no rules just tools.
these things arent rules in the sense like in math where you cant break them or there’s even a. right or wrong.
its just an extra mental tool you have in your arsenal that you can choose to apply if you find it helpful, or choose to sometimes ignore or even break if you like how it looks :)
but having more tools to choose to use or not, will always give you more options!
I think they should teach this type of thing in art classes at school
I think they should teach this type of thing in art classes at school
i agree!
I had to work extremely hard to find the right people to teach me this stuff, in this way.
I would be much better at art if I had multiple years of training with graded perspective/anatomy/posing lessons and stuff
Instead they just have you draw various pictures
Piano and guitar teachers and dance teachers teach you things like this in their classes
What's going on with art teachers in public schools? Are there just no standards?

youre always always welcome to dm me pictures of the boxes and perspective and stuff and i can let you know if youre on the right track or not.
just to save you some time so you dont get something confused and get stuck and waste time. to make it as fast and painless as possible

that is exactly right there are no standards.

The entire system needs to be reworked they aren't actually teaching people anything at all

also i totally agree.
and at least in high school you dont pay for it
but they do the same thing in really expensive art schools too
And there's a ton of very valid lessons they could be teaching
Idk how the school board lets art departments specifically get away with this in comparison to like theater or music or dance classes

its because the people hiring the people dont know anything about it.
in dance or music you can tell pretty easily if something is bad.
but with visual arts, people are really impressed if somebody can just render something in a basic way. so they get hired.
and they get all into the “emotional message” part. and try to critique and judge your message, instead of giving you the neutral skills to make your message yourself. which has nothing to do with how to draw or paint.

i know its like 200 pages but most of those pages are just big drawings with a short paragraph explaining them.
its not long to get through at all and it breaks down every little thing is a very clear and concise way and doesnt get needlessly complicated
@aeiou
the real reason you need the boxes, is because of what we do with them in chapter 12 onward btw
you can stop at chapter 17. 18 and after get more complicated and tedious than you need for almost anything youll be doing in your comic
so the beginning to chapter 17
its because with them, we can determine the middle of something in perspective thats being foreshortened.
and also turn them into spheres and cylinders (which is what you need for rabbits)
message me if anything in the book is confusing and i will clarify it for you
