our brains and ears change depending on new perspective and understanding that we gain through multiple listens, especially when in between those listens we gain more context or experience or changes in taste
Gap was less of a bad look because it was affordable for the most part
But the whole "new slaves" thing he preached while selling 200+ dollar running shoes dropped in collaboration with rich Europeans was a bad look idk
yeah the gap stuff was awesome.
the new slaves thing, i would defend it by just saying you gotta sell small quantities of items at high prices before you can move onto mass manufacturing.
also I don’t think new slaves was suppose to be against people who wanna buy nice clothes. it was about mindless consumerism. you can still buy art you enjoy, without being like a zombie. everything a balance.
thats just what my mind always went to when i thought about it.
is it a bad look even if that was the intent? haha ya probably. and that might’ve not been the intent so even worse of a look if so

ironically enough, the Yeezy Gap x Balenciaga s*** is by far the cheapest of his past collabs to get these days. cheapest Yeezy period now besides his own clothes
Gap was ready for like a 10 year partnership (lmfao) so a LOT of those clothes were made
I just got this jacket for $34

I think the way they were released in super small batches to remain hype and hard to get for people encouraged that like hype beast brain dead consumerism though
Maybe he wasn't planning on doing that long term but unless his plan was to lose the adidas deal the entire time I'm not sure how he was planning on convincing them to change it while they were collecting easy money
I'm not in the fashion industry so idk but there are random tik tok and ig influencers who drop fashion brands with similar products that he's doing now. I'm not sure if there was some top secret trick he needed to learn from people who never wanted to play the same game as him or why he thought they were going to give it to him
He's kinda silly though because he was trying to establish himself as a brand in fashion
And he avoided sways strategy initially because it would have just been thought of as regular artist merch and not a legitimate fashion brand
But now he has done so much damage to his reputation that only loyal fans of his artistry want to buy his clothing anyway for the most part
it totally would have been seen as merch initially, but I do seriously wonder if he could have transcended that merch label if he just went for it
i honestly think he had enough draw to do it, but he felt like he had to break through the traditional way
I for one don't think selling $30 Yeezys would've made 2016 Ye uncool, at all.
this one i don't wanna unwrap the box, i'll take a pic once i give it to her on her bday

oh for sure it encouraged it lol
i dont think he was ever planning on doing it long term, hes been pretty consistent that he wanted high fashion at cheap prices for peopel for a long time.
i def dont think he planned to lose adidas but i think he expected it to branch into things like the gap collab where he could put things cheaply. adidas itself also pretty cheap compared to to high fashion houses
im not in fashion industry either, but i would imagine back in like 2007sh when he wanted to break into fashion, there was loads of knowledge being gatekept by these huge fashion houses, he needed or wanted access to.
nort be saying the n word (n*rt)
im also bias to defend him because i love him i could be wrong lol

on your last point I definitely see that, I do think by 2012 or 2013 whenever he was done with Nike, he. should have made the jump independently. especially with the advent of social media becoming so ubiquitous in our culture/ his general celebrity he could've pulled it off
but hey
