They are literally so freaking lame for the most part

Most artists are horrible teachers. Bad with words. Can't explain anything. Never even looked into how to be a good teacher. It's not what they do it's like the opposite of what they do.

So instead they gather this class of like impressionable kids and try to just feed their ego and compliment them to make them feel good so they'll keep paying and not realize that actually getting decent is really hard

totally agree with all this. escpially if theyre art isnt selling. lol its an easy lick.

its why im so hell bent on like only trusting people who are succesful in the field they’re talking about. Id rather take advice and feedback on a painting from someone whos painting sell for 100k each (not that the money itself matters, but theyre clearly competent) and has like 40 years of experience.

compared to an academic in their mid 30s that has local gallery shows and makes the bulk of their money from teaching.

then ontop of all that, like you said they have to be good as explaning things which is an unrelated skill. its a rare combination. and they also have to not give af and be brutally honest with their students. which people are more reluctant to do now anyway, since it does cost them business in the short term because people can get discouraged about how hard it is and quit.

That's probably the best bet ya finding one that is actually successful with their art

I have respect for some art teachers because like I have had good ones that were honestly focused on trying to make students better but in a lot of cases they aren't passionate about teaching and they are just artists that couldn't cut it

Then you go to their class and they are trying to sell you some stupid book WHILE U R IN THE CLASS???? LIKE IM HERE JUST SAY WHATS IN THE BOOK UR GETTING PAID ALREADY

yeah it makes me jaded though because getting feedback from lay people that just enjoy art and arent autistic about it like me, is valuable too. sometimes you get all caught up in the blobs that you lose sight of, but does this s*** even look good. I havent figured out how to balance that yet.

and for sure there are great ones. theyre just rare and hard to find.

the book thing is real lol. sometimes the books are helpful because you can reread stuff dozens of times to help memorize it. sometimes its a huge scam. also if theyre a popular and worthwhile teacher theyre book is probably easy to torrent since its an already popular book.

my art mentor knew i torrented all his s*** before i met him and he jsut laughed. but because of me doing that, i ended up spending thousands on his s*** over the course of almost 10 years.

if u want a resource for good art classes. i can give you a site that has conglomerate of a hundreds of some of the worlds top artist, who all do course. and u pay a yearly fee and get access to it all. and they offer critiques too. although theyre usually extra. if u buy it on black friday sale, its half off i think 200 or 300 usd.

i jsut checked and they have a 40% off sale for the next two days so its the same price.

ive met the people who made it and they were taught by my mentor like decades ago. Ive been using it for years.
    its called nma.art
    #not sponsored

but this is the best resource i know!
just ignore if youre not interested, but i figured i would suggest it

ya its expensive. s*** sucks. maybe keep it in the back of your mind in future if you ever decide u wanna do it.

you can also, look up what courses are on there and go on torrent sites and see if people ripped them or not.

ya exactly what i was gonna suggest! and their full video lectures are probably sometimes available to torrent too.
theres a lot of epople on it and theyre for varying degrees of knowledge, i would recommend like starting at the beginner course. i redo them every couple years myself.

if you want any suggestions on particular courses or instructors for specific things i can give my input!!

yeah exactly. if youre selling paintings to the public, the public is who youre trying to win over. in animation its a bit different because theyre the people hiring you, so in that case your money IS coming from the other skilled artists.
but for selling straight paintings, ya if every skilled artists in the world hates u, but the public loves u, way better position to be in the than the opposite lol

Oh yeah animation is different unless you're also like in charge of designing the stuff

oh totally agree. in music, fashion, anything.
unlike other fields like the sciences, theres a huge element to art that cannot be taught.

yeah even in animation obviously the public has to like the movie lol
loads of instances of very talented people working on movies that the public doesnt like and it flops
