Am I wrong for liking linger more than zombie
What’s a linger
He explained this to me kinda. Like it’s more about speed than effort but idk I guess I don’t really have that control yet. It took a few tries to get down the idea of blending notes together rather than just tapping them (I know there’s proper names for this I just forget them lmao).
u also don't need to press the key all the way down
u only need to press it halfway down sorta to trigger a sound on an actual piano
What’s a linger
They are both songs by the cranberries

i don't like either songs tbh but linger is less overplayed

Ugh that sucks

Soooo much to learn. Tbh the biggest thing I’m proud of is being able to read sheet music. Always was confused by it so feels cool to sort of understand it now. But I’m excited to get better at playing too.
Although he tried to get me to play notes by sound vs playing off the sheet. So like he’d hum the song and I was supposed to guess the notes and that was hella confusing. Idk why he did that to me. He’s a cool guy tho.

This is common among piano instructors
It's called the perfect *itch test
It's where they challenge you to use perfect pitch and then make fun of you for not being able to do it and then prove that they can

interval and relative pitch training is too advanced for a complete beginner like you
he's wasting his time
@fuego jaws theme is a half step and specifically a minor second
that sound is also what the starting melody mozart uses in his 40th symphony is
he's tryna get u to recognize intervals so u can play by ear but that's too advanced tbh, he's forgetting what it's like to not know what those intervals and chords are

I think it was my fault. I asked him about perfect pitch and like how do people tell what notes to play so I think he was sort of trying to demonstrate it to me how I could listen to a song I like and maybe get the idea even if it took 2 or 3 tries to find the right note.

It could be that but some piano teachers also just enjoy mogging their students my piano teacher in middle school did this

Yeah he mogged me fr that’s probably why I’ve cancelled 3 classes in a row

ur born with perfect pitch you can't learn that
you can learn relative pitch which is what most musicians/arrangers practice and work hard on

My piano teacher literally lied he said he learned to have perfect pitch
Old idiot

Okay this is a real question I had but was nervous to ask. Even if you’re born with perfect pitch you probably still need some training to know like what notes that would map to or whatever right? It’s not like just cuz u have perfect pitch you could look at a keyboard for the first time and go “yep that’s a G”.
I slept in his class all the time
It's hard to fall asleep on a piano chair at a piano but it can be done

he's dumb lmfao that's just relative pitch
basically u can work out what a chord/note is by knowing what another note sounds like
Learning just how to find a note based on hearing a song would be cool. I’ve always wondered how artists do that. Even when they hit like 3 or 4 different notes first the fact that they can find it at all is impressive to me.
We had like headphones and were all hooked up so he could talk to us through it or play something through specific students headphones and he would see me sleeping and mash the keys to wake me up

no that's exactly right, one of my friends in composition class had perfect pitch and the way she knew was that the CD of an album she was annoying her and she kept saying to her parents "can't u hear it's out of tune" and then once she started playing violin she realized with her teacher she had perfect pitch so they practised learning all the chords/types of intervals etc
After a while he gave up and just let me sleep though
