Lol I'm serious. They had to sell off their bonds prematurely to pay the people withdrawing. Wasn't sure if that was different from I bonds that you used can be withdrawn whenever and not lose money

Yeah there are different type of bonds. When you put your money in a bank, the bank does things with your money to help the bank earn a profit. One of them is buying government bonds at auction which are usually fixed-rate. If inflation happens (like it is now), those fixed rate bonds don’t adjust for inflation and the bank ends up losing money on them. I bonds adjust for inflation and thus you cannot lose.
