WESLEYS THEORYThey made sense when physical media was around because instead of buying an album that had 3-4 songs on it you wanted to hear, you could just buy the greatest hits and get all the songs you wanted as a casual.
It doesn’t work with streaming anymore because you can just take the songs from each respective album without worry about paying for each song or album individually
there's no financial reason to do it for newer artists over playlists but a good curated greatest hits with a new song or two/alt versions used to be the s***
