If we can divide Tesla into “what they’ve delivered as an engineering org” and “what musk says Tesla is” then I’ll give them credit for the first one. But they consistently over promise and under deliver on almost everything and have been straight up lying to their customers since day 1.

I don’t really know what they lied about or under delivered on. I’ve had the car for almost 4 years and not only is it the best car I’ve ever driven; but it’s been basically flawless

I don’t wanna get into it entirely tbh but they over promised under delivered on:
Cyber truck
Roadster
Transport truck
Full self driving

Then on top of that had pretty major quality issues for a long time (people found they were using non serialized flooring essentially to mount the wiper fluid container, this was found when a customer had to bring his new $60,000 suv to a body shop to fix panel gaps).

Tesla is just run closer to a startup than a car company. Which has a lot of benefits like cool new products and innovation but it also leaves the buyer as the “beta tester” a lot of the times and for what is most people’s biggest purchase outside of a home that’s a bit meh. On top of that musk markets the company like a startup so he says things like “Tesla roadster will do 0-60 in 1.9 seconds next year” then takes 1000s of deposits and gives no updates for half a decade. Same thing with cyber truck.

Once you have the car in hand, it’s unreal how much better it is than basically everything else out there in so many different ways.

Yeah but that’s what I was saying. Tesla as an engineering org has delivered pretty cool s***. But Tesla as a wider org (marketing, customer service, repairs, quality control, etc) is rough. But they are improving in some areas (QC especially).
