he not lying. its chromium based (same as chrome). but chromium is an open source tool and other companies (like brave, even microsoft uses it for Edge) can take that underlying platform and modify it to suit them

i dont know if brave is the most secure browser like it may advertise, but its better than chrome working to block privacy extensions, i can still install ublock on brave if i want to
