Like a Camillimaneprince played oberheim and yamaha synths for like 10-12 years if you play a big chord or anything with upper extensions, the harmonies between the notes clash like they do on an electric guitar so you move the notes of the chord to the melody you sing or a diff instrument part
same reason u don't do 7th/9th/11th etc chords below middle C on an acoustic piano, it's too muddy
i will test this right now but my guess is he could get away with open voicings and/or hi/low pass filters. He loved to layer the f*** out of his production in the revolution days anyways. You cant be scared of mud if you’re cool with dropping 20 s*** albums playa!!

atleast die with a smile has some nice 7th and 9th chords in it that u don't hear often in pop music
