My understanding, this was brought up in theology class last week so im going off the prof, is that there isn’t. And people, escpially popes used to be promiscuous and it was creating issue so monkhood became popular. But this created a huge divide and a schism in Christianity, with multiple popes saying theyre the pope and the creation of a council instead of the pope acting alone and different sects of Christianity. Premarital s***isnt a sin in anglican (my denomination) nor is a pope recognized. It’s Catholics mostly shoving that down peoples throats. At least in the case fo Christianity, i am unsure about other religions.
In anglican faith priests get married, there are women priests, no confession, they’ve been marrying gay people since the 70s etc.
