    Like people that are transphobes

They not only need to be less retarded, also chill tf out

yeah. but even having "good" algorithms can lead to huge problems like

-who decides what is good, how can we trust them, when will it change

-with the massive levels of complexity and the black box concept of the models it's extremely difficult to make sure they stay good like we intend

-still ton of ability for deception and control and just the idea of the mass surveillance which is a moral wrong for a lot of people

I definitely agree with the idea that we can use algorithms for good like that and that's the direction we should go in. not all algorithms/services are created equal in this respect and that is important. but my biggest problem is that as the scale of the data increases it just spirals out of control easier. and the scale of the big data world we live in is getting out of hand already

Oh yeah I mean I agree with all of that but it didn’t have to be this way. It is, though, and will never change and the world is certainly fast towards a techno-authoritarian state especially with the prospect of quantum AI on the horizon.

I definitely believe that at some point in the not-so-distant future, people will never leave their homes due to conditions of pollution and effects of global warming outside and instead live their entire lives digitally.

It sounds horrifying now but if your brain couldn’t tell the difference between reality and virtual reality (which will be the case with quantum processing), does it really matter? More of a philosophical question.

Calls into question the nature of what we call reality as it is now

yeah i agree (100% on the first part)

i just havent really made up my mind yet on how much we can mitigate the bad effects

and how much the good effects will offset the bad ones. because there are still are some good effects, for example level of security. i think it all just does represent a society with vastly different values and way of life to what currently living people want. and the society is turning into that more quickly than we can stomach
