Nortdid classical era composers ever break the rules or was that looked down upon? I imagine if Beethoven pulled out a borrowed IV chord the masses would call him washed @Camille
beethoven started the moonlight sonata with the slow movement first which was a massive headscratcher at the time, usually it'd be fast/quick, slow, fast
a borrowed 4 chord not so much
the way beethoven would modulate/switch keys would be through spamming diminished 7th chords which is an easier way
