i have a random weird thought:

the law enforcement officers who do sting operations on pedophiles are doing really important work. it must be very strange to be the person who messages pedo's pretending to be a kid and playing along to get the scumbag to come to a meet, but it's important work and must be done. it's one of the most important crime prevention tactics out there since the internet was created. like if i was in charge of police budgets i would put a large budget toward this. i really have no concept of how much resources are put into undercover online ops like this (another similar category being terrorism prevention, which is good too but it probably gets a way bigger budget).

now i dont mind the vigilantes who do this kind of thing too, and put it on tiktok or whatever, but i like it when the actual cops do it cuz then it becomes criminal charges
