pop songs are more focused on the structure and the build. its very scientific and calculated in its purest nature.

pop has a sound that is always evolving. right now the sound of pop is dancier music (whether its house or the future nostalgiablinding lights type s***), while country music (which isnt pop music) is also dominating the chart

u could argue morgan wallen makes pop music w a country twang

my point is its reductive to say pop music is popular music. it is not. drake won best rap song at the grammys for hotline bling. hotline bling is a pop song, maybe r&b, but definitely not rap.

for me its more about the length of album anyway, like its still 37 min and would feel shorter to me than some bloated album with 20 3-4minute songs

Well if Pop doesn’t mean popular what does it mean?

Pop can still be artistic and being “popular” isn’t always a negative slant. But when you break it down to the bare essential, yes Pop is POPular music. It’s meant to be commercial to a degree.

That’s because bottom line, you’re choosing to assume that “Popular” is a negative connotation and wanting to ignore the basic definition of Pop music. It’s specifically structured and written in a way to appease to a majority group of people and be…POPular. And that’s not a bad thing. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
