Jon Brion didn't have the same emotional attachment. Obviously he was friends with Mac and respected him as an artist, But E Dan/ID Labs worked with him from the very beginning. I can imagine it was just too much trying work on an album feeling like there was always a ghost in the room.

Jon Brion was the right man for the job. And how could he not be? His resume is incredible.

I don't think Circles is really far off from what Mac would've actually released.

I think Jon being there to work on Circles alongside Swimming before Mac passed helped a lot. He probably had a good intuition about what Mac wanted or didnt want it to sound like. Ofc it'll always be a "I wonder..." sort of thing.

He knew that original review was wrong though and would forever be a mark on his reviews so I'll give him a little leniency for at least trying to right the wrong.

I legit lost respect for him in both reviews. He gave it such a scathing review that a flip to an 8 is unbelievable like a 5 or 6 from where he started maybe but that was some bullshit

I like the music ! Think he has a high ceiling but whether his commercial success continues Idk bad habits was lightning in a bottle

I assume he finally realized what Mac was trying do with Swimming after he heard Circles and relistened to it with a whole new perspective and appreciated alot of things about it that he missed the first time but as you said, a 3 to a f***ing 8? Pretty suspect.
