you think dennis and carl were going against him like that? idk. and i never heard anything about lack of support from them, could be wrong though. and feel like he always had only the best things to say about them especially after they passed. mike love the opposite story though ofc
and also its easier to say back brian 100% now because we know how genius the ideas were but imagine how hard it might have been back then when you see him unraveling in real time.
without the mental health issues i can still a situation with late 60s/early 70s Beach Boys where Brian is still writing most of the songs but Carl and Dennis made great contributions and cowriting as well, being like the George Harrison type.
Carl and Dennis specifically I don’t think were unsupportive, but Mike Love had WAY too much influence within the decision making in the group. And that MF did NOT like the more artistic direction they started pivoting towards with Summer Days. He wanted to keep them in the surfing box churning out hit after hit. And sure they didn’t have the perspective we do now to recognize Brian’s greatness. But I don’t know how you could have doubt after Pet Sounds was released and hearing songs like Surfs Up and Heroes and Villains. That was some genius. They never reached that same level of greatness ever again anyway, even though the Lofi experimental stuff in the late 60s was pretty cool.

genius but still so ahead of its time it makes sense why some people thought it would flop or didnt get it. pet sounds was not a commercial or critical sucess at first so i understand why people (especially the record label ones with so much control) would doubt it. but the success of Good Vibrations should have restored all faith, what a f***ing triumph
and thats true for the most part but Mike still had a few contributions to things like All I Wanna Do or Meant for You that were creative. i think having him in a small dose wouldnt have necessarily been a terrible thing (without the a******ry) but yeah once his vision took over completely things turned real ugly
