TPAB doesnt really put a mirror in your face like The Big Steppers
Lyrically yes Morale is even better than TPAB
But the music ain’t as good imo
Imagine if they actually went all in on the “piano direction” of some of the core tracks
I love Rich Spirit and Savior as accessible joints and even N95 was ok
But were the Kodak and Summer Walker joints really needed? Did it need to be a double album?

Count Me Out one of his best songs

I dont listen to the summer and ghost joint tbh
I play about 10 songs from the big steppers, but it's still a great album to me
I can understand his direction and those songs just arent for me
I've played We Cry Together maybe once or twice in 2022 and thats it
Didn't need to again
That’s DAMN tbh. GOAT Steppers doesn’t sounds like he was radio-maxxing at all
Morale definitely has songs intended moreso for a general audience. N95, Die Hard, Rich Spirit and Silent Hill in particular.
But I think overall DAMN and Morale are pretty different. Morale had the elements of a well put together theatrical play and has some very specific experimentation with classical sounds. A lot of strings and grand piano.
And he’s correct in that assessment. People were expecting an Off Season type album after the 5 year hiatus and instead they got an album based around his therapeutic experiences. Not what they wanted or expected and treated it harshly as a result.
I don’t think people were expecting an off season album lol
Part of the problem is, some people wanted him to push further and do a rock album
Some people wanted the banger album but that was probably a small group. I think most people after DAMN wanted another swing to the left
Musically I don’t think it went left enough for those people. Even for me, I gotta say I was expecting a new sonic palate and not a relatively similar one to DAMN.
The message and certain tracks like We Cry Together went all the way to the left but as an album it probably felt a little safe to some people, musically
Immaculate meat riding 💀
Just hope it made you c**
Yup ppl will support Kendrick always
Used to gym with a bro from ATL and he said he wasn't feeling Mr Morale. About a month later he said it finally clicked for him.
Kendrick pushed further and alienated alot of people
My friend always liked the album but he told me recently at a party he thought the album was amazing and it frustrates him some people treated it like it was a miss. He actually put it at his #2 favorite Kendrick album after GKMC.
Come the 2030s and Drake/Cole/Kendrick Will probably be viewed by the youth the same way the youth views rappers like Jay & Nas today.
The Beatles were literally the most in and hip band at one point and now they’re looked at as old overrated crackers by a good amount of the youth. That’s just what happens when time is moving. You aren’t always going to be adored by younger people. Those younger people who adored you grew up and became older and the new younger people don’t have the same connection.
I’m the youth
I love jay and nas
Kendrick had so much time to work on The Big Steppers, he made something for everyone because he knew it would work.
His "TLOP / Views"
With wayyyyy more storytelling and substance though
B****??
I’m sorry babe
I’m the youth
I love jay and nas
You’re on KTT2 so the taste might be more niche compared to casuals

Views already a classic

I play this song all the time

I think ktt2 does a funny dance where we listen to casuals in some instances and disregard them in others

It’s a genius concept but I don’t think it should’ve been on the album. Would’ve made a great loosie as a short film though like the video was.
Why torture yourself like that
Must be an Eminem fan

This is definitely my main gripe
I never thought Kendrick would have a skip that bad on an album. He went too far with that. How you have that and the Kodak and Summer tracks on the same album? The worst of 2 extremes
