Jay-Z was gonna go lead Atlantic records before Def Jam. Told Lupe to sign with Atlantic and he was gonna have Lupe lead the “next generation” from that label. Basically positioned to be where Kendrick is now. Lupe signed and Jay-Z dipped out when he got a better offer at Def Jam, abandoning Lupe and leaving him with his Atlantic contract which f***ed with him for years.
