Maybe it’s a hot take idk but I think Michael was at his peak vocally with Bad.

He could do the softer smooth delivery of OTW/Thriller still while also adding the grit to his voice that he used a lot in the second half of his career. Real versatility in his vocals during that period.

Too bad he damaged his vocals on the Bad tour.
