    but.. why

lot of reasons. maybe a mix of all these:

-country fans streaming more than they would have normally due to being at home
-decline in popularity of some other genres
-fans finding comfort in the characteristics of country during covid climate. warm, comfortable, nostalgic genre with focus on emotional connection and catchiness
-maybe general social/political climate also driving people towards it to for those reasons + rural ideal lifestyle? this applies to republicans mostly but still in general
-decline in the era of country that was turning some people off, especially women (bro-country)
-rise of "indie country" movement as a separate thing that is now combining with the rest of the genre
-new gen of superstars Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen breaking through within a few years of each other. more likeable (and talented imo) than previous generation
-audiences emphasizing authenticity, country fans perceive the music as authentic even tho the mainstream stuff definitely has its detractors in this way

tldr: a genre that can appeal to all genders and ages in the right environment is doing just that. driven mostly by younger fans

Country being big isn't a sudden thing for me

Country has always been huge where I live

Like most people here regardless of age gender or race listen to at least some country

genuinely, you need to write for a music publication or start making video essays on youtube.

yes this is true too and i think some of the people surprised by the current popularity aren't used to that. and the genre grew in urban areas+outside of the typical regions more too i think?

  • Sep 6, 2023

Like if anything I have always been treated as though I was weird for not enjoying country

also I don't think it's necessarily the case that rising technology + the decline of rural areas in favor of urban will lead to a decrease in country music because their idealized lifestyle is dying out. might have somewhat of an opposite effect tbh

Just like incorporating elements of genres other people like and not being corny about it

I think it makes sense to spread cus of that

Still I don’t think I’ve personally listened to a new country album for years until Morgan Wallen/Zach Bryan.
