i dont see that much difference with other massive pop stars in general. biggest difference for me is the difference in time period, like yeah of course pop stars 30 years ago weren't going to be releasing random s***ty remixes because they wouldn't benefit them like they do in the streaming era. i still see it as a bad thing just something that comes with being a fan of massive pop artists in our society; yeah the music itself can be very valuable but it will always have another dimension as being a product in a way that other art doesn't

Madonna maybe the biggest (and og) example of another ruthless savvy capitalist pop star who was criticized by detractors as too much of a product. worth mentioning to that our view of these actions are driven by us actually experiencing them in real time, there are plenty cases of people getting annoyed to pop artists' over exposal and marketing blitzes in the past
