Well rock got super oversaturated in the 90s-early 2000s the same way rap did in the mid-late 2010s

Hell you could even compare nu metal to the 2nd wave soundcloud boom lmfao

and after nu metal fell off, the 2000s were sort of a creative renaissance for rock music, you had all the emo bands taking up the radio, indie acts becoming critical darlings etc

History is cyclical and I think we’re gonna see it happen again with rap this decade

I don’t remember the last genre pushing rap album I’ve heard off the top of my head

Basically we’re gonna see rap’s 2000s indie phase with a creative renaissance that I believe will inadvertently leave the genre without a general consensus on what “defines” it
