We have more Buddhist, Sikh and Hindus here in Vancouver than anything else these days. I'm no theologian but I know some history.

you neuter the supernatural aspect, then yes it’s utilitarianist in essence
But that’s still speculation. Have you considered that those ideas are common not because they derive from a higher reality, but because they’re the intuitive answers to questions they lacked a sufficient understanding of?
i mean what else was early man to think? they couldn’t explain why the sun rose every morning — they attributed it to magic.
