i definitely pick an album, pick out my fav tracks, spin those, and then eventually revisit the album a couple of times to see if it grows
i can understand why you would do it this way though
thats how i do it if im feeling the artist the most, otherwise ill start slowly and take a few months per album (not really listening a ton though just a good few times)
with an artist im really feeling ill listen to like 5-10 albums of theirs over a few weeks and then just keep listening to them all gradually until i want to stop. maybe giving 2-3 listens per album before moving on and not just listening to them all once at first though

unrelated, but what was that thing you had said awhile back where you said albums shouldn’t be compared to one another for an artist, they should instead be looked at as the collective sum of an artists’ identity etc? idk if you’ll remember

cant find one of the exact quotes now but something from Zappa about looking at the artist's work as a whole.
or at least the way he intended to connect all his own stuff:
