When we lost, we overall bid too high and we got set. The basic rules to deciding what your bid is is counting your A, K and any spades in excess of 3. And that’s your bid. It’s a lot more complicated than that but that’s the basic. I bid 6 and you bid 3 so we had to get 9 but we only got 8. Normally I would underbid a little in that situation since we only needed like 5 to win but we had 8 bags so if we got 2 more bags we’d also go -100 and not win. Had to be a perfect bid and we overbid by 1.

I never count spades unless its a face card tbh

I'll give myself an extra 1 or 2 if I have none of a type of card or very few

Should have underbid that round because getting set was much worse than getting bagged (since we would eventually get bagged anyway if we got set) but I had 8 spades in my hand and got cocky

If when you bid the 3, you had any combination of 3 Aces and non solo Kings (more cards in the suit than just the king), we would have won because I had 8 spades, nobody else was going to be cutting any other suit on the 2nd go arounds

That’s basically the same thing as counting excess spades because if you have excess spades you usually have very few of another suit except when your hand is perfectly balanced which is the worst hand to have

rule of thumb is when you go 8+ you need to get the spades out

like lead out with them and then see if you can get a run down of a suit

i will add tho this works best without bags, obviously

I had 8 spades and the rest was all garbage except for a K but I was cutting every single other suit that game, I knew I was getting my 6 no matter what. But I didn’t know what he bet 3 on so if I ran down spades, I’d get his spades out and waste my cut

I wouldn't count those probably even though they are above 3

No not above 3, in excess of 3, so like if I have 5 spades total I count that as 2 bid

get the spades off the board, i know u don't agree with this but u need to stop counting cut books

if u count cut books and the other team gets the spades out of play.. well ur f***ed

Nobody else can cut when I have 8 spades unless it’s a 0.1% hand where somebody was dealt like 10 hearts or something
