should be studied how when you reach a certain age as an artist you completely lose your marbles

I blame him becoming a jehovah’s witness more than I do his age

    Religion ruins artists

there's a good quote from a composer who sort of spoke on this exact issue

"lt is a curious story... The older we get, the more we lose that divine confidence... which is the treasure of youth and the fewer are those moments when we believe that what we have done is any good. Nowadays, l am rarely satisfied with myself... and almost never feel that what l do is successful"

I find it funny how in the world of jazz and classical the older/weirder/abstract works of artists are universally beloved and praised as great but in contemporary music like rock or rap fans usually love the early works and hate the later works

i feel like you have to appreciate “weirdness” in music to enjoy a large portion of jazz

people underrate later work sometimes because they think of the genre as a youthful thing. and more about energy and rebelliousness. there are few things as low energy and unrebellious as old people

theyre wrong tho, people should stop underrating late career music of any style and stop the weird belief that artistic talent runs out at like 30-40 for everyone

dissonant atonal scales over a swung rhythm with no discernible melody
