They were just getting used to the altitude in game 1
the difference is crazy
It was still a flop or if you prefer, an underperformance.
It only managed that because there weren't many major rap albums released in 2022 and albums like It's Only Me, Her Loss and Heroes & Villains didn't drop till the fourth quarter of the year.
Having your first album in 5 years being the 6th best-selling rap album of the year despite dropping in the second quarter isn't the flex you think it is.
The album has nothing to do with the tour, so I don't know why you're trying to link both of them together. That's like saying legacy acts who have their latest albums flop but have their tours do well didn't still have flop albums. They're both separate entities.
Kendrick is an arena veteran now - He'll sell out a tour regardless of how well his latest album performs because there are fans who'll show up even if it's just to hear songs off albums like GKMC/TPAB/DAMN.
DAMN. did 610k first week, not 350k, so the drop from DAMN. to MMATBS was a lot bigger than the drop from Scorpion to CLB.
Drake dropped Honestly, Nevermind, a dance album released 9 months after CLB and everyone was screaming that it flopped, including mostly Kendrick fans, so miss me with all that bullshit.
A lot of people said Drake's next rap release would perform better and that's exactly what happened with Her Loss, despite it being his third album in 13 months.
I don't know why you're getting so defensive over me saying MMATBS flopped. That's not an inaccurate statement. It did and don't act like Kendrick didn't have a handful of songs on there that were radio bait and he pushed as singles. The difference is that with MMATBS, none of them took off. That's okay, it happens. I believe a Kendrick album more in the vein of what DAMN was will perform a lot better so I'm not saying that to mean he has run out of gas when it comes to his ability to put up numbers. In fact, when I say that, I mostly mean impact-wise for Kendrick. I said it several times that MMATBS was his first album which didn't have the kind of impact usually associated with his albums. People largely moved on from it after the week it dropped and it was more noticeable because it was his first album in 5 years.
Again, I'm not saying a new Kendrick album can't drop this year and do numbers. MMATBS just wasn't that.
Today was without purpose.
