BP is the first group that I've followed in kpop and I did it pretty recently, so it'll be truly heartbreaking if they shelf them so fast

When YGE debuted Blackpink, 2ne1 got completely dungeoned and they were still very popular at this point mind you.

The running joke has always been that YG holds his idols in house arrest, despite their record breaking popularity

There are two schools of thought

1) he undercuts the potential of what his idols could be in terms of success and popularity. If bp did comebacks every 3/4 or so months, imagine how much bigger they would be

2) he actually accentuates his groups visibility and ultimately success by limiting the amount of content available. Every song, appearance, etc is that much more precious and valuable given that we know how scarce it is.

Truthfully i believed one in the beginning and i moved over to two but ultimately neither really can explain YGs process in full. Some ideas of each are probably true, and still, with as much hate as he receives, the motherfuck delivers unfortunately.

Personally, i dont believe bp has offered anything particularly unique but regardless of what they do or dont offer, beyond any logic, YG has found ways to make them successful in manners no one else has reached. Its like taking an average ass team to the championship, but its not even like they even play that well together, they just somehow make it and win.

I wish i could say this is all part of his master plan, but its so hard to believe the man has put an ounce of reasoning into any of his plans. And yet he still f***ing stands on top. It is sickening.

Yeah. I agree with you, maybe I'm in totally different information field, but I've found out about Blackpink, I think because of Coachella, and then when I've discovered TWICE, I couldn't understand why BP has like 1 hour of songs (including remixes, covers) and at the same time TWICE did so much more, but BP still has this image of the biggest korean group atleast to me.

Also how each girl is an ambassador of the big brand and this vibe from their instagram. I think there is something unique about their marketing, but at the same time I wish they switched this limiting approach at least for one year just to see what happens. Would they fell off if the public will be well fed with their music/content or maybe reach new highs, and proof that it's not just smokes and mirrors.
