Also known as "The Lauryn Hill Tape", because of the track which Lauryn Hill and D'angelo were to record for but Lauryn never showed up, or "The Questlove Tape", because Questlove played some snippets of it at a Red Bull lecture in 2013. This is a rare tape from Jay Dee which initially came to me in extremely poor shape. I've done some restoration work to it using my own noise reduction techniques and some restorative EQing to the tape as a whole

@PADYBU you might be the right person to ask

Or is just the same album but with those marvine & Joe texan tracks?

Here's a promo CDr of Voodoo that still contained the Dilla track in question. discogs.com/release/16720239-DAngelo-Voodoo?srsltid=AfmBOor45i_Gug0xsKzWj2zQotTI5lOMOak4xZfUcVYn3UIuje1Tfwh4

The track is a slight variation of the 2nd beat from Another Batch. You can find the beat for it on YouTube titled "Marvine", it was meant to have a clip of Marvin Gaye speaking over it.

The "one for lauryn" beat on this "1998 secret tape" was one of four choices they had for that D'Angelo & Lauryn Hill collab she didn't show up for. Because of her no-show they decided to go for the Feel Like Making Love cover instead.

Here's a bit from Questlove discussing Dilla's involvement in Voodoo:

"jaydee did the lauryn track. and it has an al green feel to it mixed with a little ''got til it's gone'' (jaydee did that too...). there's also some interludes from our endless jam sessions as well, most notably the ahmad jamal/ pete rock jam we recreated from the last interlude from pete's main ingredient. we used those interludes to help the masters speak. on one marvin gaye talks about the songwriting process, and the intro is jimi hendrix begging his audience to just ''forget everything that happened yesterday, or today.....we are just making our own little place just give us that..'' we have others but i don't know if they'll get used or not. anyway. this is the in depth ''voodoo'' report from the inside. i hope you enjoy it. just have an open mind to new s***. just give us that..........."

(the Pete Rock interlude he mentions here made the album. It's the outro to Feel Like Makin Love)

    "Chicken Grease:
by mid 99 the soulquarians were in full swing (d, me, jaydee, james poyser) and we were working on common's ''like water for chocolate'' when we came up with this lethal jam. it was so good that d pulled me to the side and said ''i ain't no indian giver....but i ain't lettin Com walk off with this song..'' "

In Dilla Time you can read that Dilla was let down with the fact he got no shout-out in the liner notes considering the work he did and the inspiration he gave specifically Questlove.
