Just looked into MLS NEXT the best “youth development league” in the US and it’s like $5k minimum a year if you’re not playing directly for an MLS team, all to have a kid be developed wrong (as a joke) where your greatest hope is developing in spite of the training and maybe being a Pulisic caliber (unlikely)

  • Got a lot of points on my world cup guessing group by guessing a 0-0 for switzerland

USA would have much better players if the sport was free and followed the football pyramid league style

So funny seeing Americans asking "who will pay for it if it’s free?" As if that’s not a solved issue in every other country

I remember I went to school with a kid that played for DC United. His family was sooooo rich and he eventually got to play for some leagues in France. You gotta have a lot of money to succeed professionally playing soccer in the US

Alexi Lalas defended this dumbass s*** too big surprise.

The incentive for MLS NEXT is clearly to sell the illusion of development to parents and hope they keep paying year after year for their kid to stay. In Europe, as far as I understand, the incentive is to develop kids because they collect a % of any fee paid by a larger club signing the kid

My small village of 6k people has 6 teams.
    2 in 5th league (amateur)
    2 in 4th league (amateur)
2 in 3rd league (this one is semi pro)

4th and 5th leagues are feeder for the ones in 3rd, once you hit 1st grade in school they come to recruit you

In 1st grade (so 5-6 years old) the teams in the 5th and 4th league come to recruit kids already? Damn. Then I imagine it can’t be anymore than like 200 euros for the whole year, if that
