Tbf if you’re good enough those private academies will just take you and waive the cost. There’s not really a profit motive for doing that with like soccer. Going D1 in soccer isn’t gonna get you paid like going D1 in football.

I have very limited knowledge of how the youth to prep to pro scene works in soccer but from what I understand the MLS academies do a lot of the heavy lifting and the goal isn't to go D1, it's to go pro ASAP and eventually go overseas

They still do because guys slip through the cracks/bloom late but private camps and 7 on 7s where you build relationships with coaches and GMs are the main way the private schools get their players now

Top 16 is definitely not complete dogshit even if tonight was embarrassing. In all honesty I think our top players are actually relatively close to being able to compete with the best of the best (even if we don't have a real superstar,) it's the weak links on the team that hold us back. I don't think we can bridge the gap between us and the elite teams until we no longer have MLS players in our squad
