IMO the "fear of the far left" is really just the fear of uncertainty- it's easier to believe that all we have to do is deregulate, wall up, and own the libs and the world will go back to normal.

its much harder to accept that we need to dismantle an unfathomably powerful, complex system with the odds and timeframe stacked against us.

i think this creates a kind of trauma for the average young person that is either processed (far left), repressed (trump voter who hates the left because of what their existence represents), or struggled with (doomers).
