I think we all assumed he’d be active for the full decade but for all the speculation on where his music career was heading, how much he improved etc, nothing really came of it. It feels like we got the alternate timeline sometimes tbh

i like that coming off a massive hit like this is america, he made a weird project that didn’t include the song. felt like a non-industry approach to having a hit to not pair it with an album, but i wish this album got a real rollout and videos and stuff to present a full vision. musically it’s absolutely insane what he did on this project. unreal

it’s crazy i was listening to a podcast and they said atlanta ended while it was trending upward which is rare. and i can’t help but feel the same about childish gambino

bro really made a masterpiece with BTI, switched genres and became twice as good at making music (imo) with AML. then dropped a massive smash and cultural moment with this is america, came back and delivered 3.15.2020 where he’s singing at his best, pushing himself creatively and taking huge risks while paying homage to the greats (i mention that because AML is so referential to older music that it’s inherently less risky).

then after dropping an insane album, and killing the charts with redbone and this is america back to back, it’s almost like he met his goals and finished the mission in his eyes lol

like if his musical goals were to:

• headline arenas
• make hot 100 #1 record
• make classic r&b/soul/funk album
• make classic rap album
• win grammys

he literally did everything you could possibly do. while simultaneously doing other TV and film. we’ve really never seen anyone like this before lol i gotta give him his flowers

also the fact that he never put out human sacrifice…

if we got whatever album he seemed to be working on in 2018 i think he’d be even bigger than he is

Heavy Prince influence throughout the album. I love that his last two albums were heavily influenced by the music his father had him listening to growing up. It's touching how much of an impact his dad had on him and he wanted to pass that same kinda impact onto his son with his music.

A true classic and in my top 10 albums of all time. One of the very few albums I can listen to front to back, not a single skip

It is a real gem of an album for music heads and I think that is why he just dropped it, like he did.
