coinbase is not a wallet but can be used as one.

coinbase is a broker similar to robinhood. once you deposit money you are able to choose from a number of cryptos supported by coinbase, most notably being bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, ripple, etc.

similar to stocks, once you buy it it’s pretty much the same concept. if you are in for the long run it’s safe to buy and hold long term without worrying about your funds (i’ve had money stored in it for years)

as far as wallets go, i’ve had a hardware wallet for years now but the company i was using was recently hacked. luckily i’ve only had cryptos stored on it for the first week i bought the wallet (was pretty much a waste of money for me)

i’ve been using coinbase for years and have never had issues or any scares regarding my funds being compromised

if you do decide to choose another exchange i suggest you research heavily on the it, because there has been times were exchanges have scammed their users. coinbase is what i’d recommend. if you do go with coinbase be sure to enable 2 factor authentication with google authenticator
